Have you noticed that green is having its moment? With the rise of “cottagecore” style, as well as people leaning towards more earth friendly choices in their homes, green is becoming a popular and beautiful colour to choose for so many applications. From wall colour, cabinetry, accents and, of course tile, there are so many ways to incorporate this colour into your space.

Because green is found in nature, it makes your home feel full of life, harmony, freshness and freedom. It is the most calming colour to the eye, and relaxes mind and body as well as improving the mood. Green is found between yellow and blue on the colour wheel, which makes it feels fresh, but not as cold as blue which can make a huge difference to the feel to your space; especially in our Northern climate!  Green can be dressed up or down and can be easily paired with so many colours; who knew one colour could have so many positive benefits?

You might wonder at the “staying power” of decorating with bold colours. Is green having its moment now, but then the trends will move on to other colours, making green decorating choices look dated and out of style? Of course, trends come and go, but green has been a popular colour choice in traditional decorating for a very long time.
Just look at these beautiful shades of green, above, from the past hundred years!

In spaces such as the living room or bedroom, try introducing green through wall colour, or trim colour for a historical touch. If you aren’t ready to commit to painting, or your budget does not allow for it, then introduce green through your accessories such as bedding, pillows and rugs. Since green is a calming colour (great for sleep!), you can’t go wrong choosing it for the bedroom. Bonus points if you add in a plant which is both green in colour and calming to your senses!

Green is a great choice for kitchens and bathrooms, whether you choose to go for green cabinetry, or express your style through one of the many beautiful green tiles on the market. Surprisingly, because of its close connection to nature, green can actually act as a neutral in some spaces giving you greater versatility with decorating. Of course you can create a sophisticated environment by pairing green with other classic neutrals like white, black, and wood tones in shades of brown, but if you are looking to create a more energetic feeling, you can definitely combine green with other vibrant hues, like this dark green paired with orange and yellow, below.

Bright, punchy tones are modern and invigorating and will energize the mood of your space.
Dark, jewel shades like Emerald and Hunter can give your space a rich, classic feel.

Nolita Emerald is a beautiful glossy, “hand formed” tile with some soft variation. This series is an elegant take on the traditional “subway tile” and looks as equally at home in a kitchen backsplash as in a custom shower

Finally, Wadi Pine is a matte tile with a uniform colour to it. It can be used for either floor or wall applications and looks interesting when installed in a traditional brick lay, stack, offset stack (for a modern take), or chevron pattern for a unique flair! A “deco” tile is also available with 12 different patterns in a random mix, to add a fun burst of energy to your install.
As you can see from this quick overview, green can be used successfully in any room and there are so many shades and tones of greens to choose from, you are sure to find one you love!
